April 2021- Venosa came to Neema on Friday. She was born June 15, 2020. She is ten months old. She is Maasai and sadly her mother passed away from HIV when Venosa was 7 months old. The father is unknown. The grandmother is taking care of other grandchildren and does not believe Venosa is thriving. She is a little thing. Social welfare was informed and asked Neema to step in to help. She had a very hard few days of adjusting but is doing very well now. She is eating for her nannies. She does not know how to suck. So she is taking drinks from a bottle with the top off. She does crawl. She is starting to smile, play with toys and show us her little personality. She is a sweet girl. When she is bigger and stronger she will return home.

Orphans are easier to ignore before you know their names. They are easier to ignore before you see their faces. It is easier to pretend they’re not real before you hold them in your arms. But once you do, everything changes.
