Sarah Fortson

This very tiny baby girl was born at the hospital. Her mother walked out abandoning the baby and the hospital called after one week for Neema to pick up this little angel. Sarah was very tiny, with soft black hair and big eyes. She was named after one of the volunteers at Neema, Sarah Lockett.

Now Sarah has been adopted by a great young couple from Italy so she has a new mom and dad, and home. This new family continues to live in Arusha, so we get to see Sarah quite often.

Orphans are easier to ignore before you know their names. They are easier to ignore before you see their faces. It is easier to pretend they’re not real before you hold them in your arms. But once you do, everything changes.
