It never gets easier when an abandoned baby comes to Neema Village. After 15 years of finding babies left on the side of the road, thrown in pit laterines or left in buses, my heart still breaks for the mother who felt she had no other choice but to lay her baby down and walk away.
Today the call came of a newborn left outside the walls of a rural hospital. The clamp on her umbilical cord still attached. Her precious face reminds me of a little cherub figurine. I named her after my dear sister- in- law who now walks with the angels… Joanna Angelica Fortson.
Deuteronomy 31:8. The Lord will be with you; he will not leave you nor forsake you.

Orphans are easier to ignore before you know their names. They are easier to ignore before you see their faces. It is easier to pretend they’re not real before you hold them in your arms. But once you do, everything changes.
