Israel

Feb. 2, 2021: This news just in from Angel: We have a new baby at Neema Village from Longido. Kim says they couldn’t pronounce his Maasai name so they called him Israel. He is two weeks old, born on Jan 20th. His mom was 15. She lost her life for three reasons: getting pregnant before her hips were wide enough to deliver a baby, and it was a home delivery with no medical care and she had been circumcised. Her HB was one. Those three things are the main reasons we lose so many Maasai moms in childbirth. The baby was little, only weighed 2.05 kg (about 4 lbs ) at 2 weeks old. Those are also the reasons Neema will be starting a program called “Save The Moms.” Watch for more news about that! It is pretty exciting.

Orphans are easier to ignore before you know their names. They are easier to ignore before you see their faces. It is easier to pretend they’re not real before you hold them in your arms. But once you do, everything changes.
