Sarah
With no stable income, Sarah began selling her household belongings one by one just to survive, until nothing was left except clothes for herself and her children.
She is 35 years old, a mother of four children aged 11, 10, 6, and 4.
Sarah never had the chance to grow up in a stable home. When she was still very young, her mother developed a severe mental illness and disappeared from their lives. She and her younger sister were left in the care of their father, who did his best to raise them.
But when Sarah was only 12 years old, her father passed away.
After his death, life became even more uncertain. Sarah moved from Shinyanga to Arusha, where she survived by working as a house girl in different homes. During this time, her younger sister was taken by someone who promised to educate her, but Sarah never saw her again. Later, she was told that her sister died in an accident on the very day they left.
From that moment, Sarah was completely alone in the world.
Years later, she met the man who would become the father of her children, a truck driver who transported goods across different regions of Tanzania. For a while, life seemed to have some stability. But at the end of 2020, he left for work as usual and never returned. His phone became unreachable, and despite all efforts, Sarah has never heard from him again.
He disappeared while Sarah was pregnant with their fourth child.
Left alone with three young children and another on the way, Sarah faced an overwhelming reality. With no stable income, she began selling her household belongings one by one just to survive, until nothing was left except clothes for herself and her children.
Sarah says her Life became a daily struggle.
She moved from one neighbor’s house to another, asking for a place to sleep. To provide food, she took on small casual jobs, cleaning houses, washing clothes, and working on farms. Even then, it was never enough.
Earlier this year, Sarah reached a breaking point. She had nowhere left to stay.
A friend helped her find a small room and spoke to the landlord, asking him to allow Sarah to stay and pay rent later when she could. The same friend gave her a mattress and a few cooking items to start again.
But for the past two months, Sarah has not been able to earn enough to pay rent. She also has children in school who depend on her support. Now, the landlord is asking her to leave because another tenant is ready to pay.
Once again, she is on the edge of losing everything.
In the middle of this struggle, Sarah remembered a moment that gave her a small light of hope. One day at the market, while searching for work, she met a preacher sharing the Word of God. She asked him to pray for her and shared her situation.
After praying with her, he explained and directed her to Neema Village.
Sarah came to the MAP office and we welcomed her.
When we visited her home and saw her situation, it became clear to us that this is a mother who has been carrying too much, for too long, all by herself.
Sarah shared that she has a skill in tailoring. She knows how to use a sewing machine and has a deep desire to grow this ability into a small business. She dreams of using her hands to provide for her children, to stand on her own, and to build a more stable and hopeful future for her family. For Sarah. This is more than a skill—it is a chance to rise again.
Some stories are heavy NOT because there is no strength, but because no one has been there to help carry the weight. We believe Sarah’s story does not have to end in struggle. With the right support, it can become a story of strength, dignity, and new beginnings. By walking alongside, we can help her rebuild what has been lost and discover what is still possible. Through the MAP Program at Neema Village, Sarah will have the chance to grow her sewing skills, receive monthly food support for her family, find healing through our group counseling, and gain hope, faith and strength through our Bible studies. Step by step, she can move from simply surviving to building a stable and meaningful future for her children.
Sometimes, all it takes is someone choosing to stand with her—and everything begins to change.
