Rose

“Rose is the oldest of 7 siblings. While she lived at home the father was abusing her mother terribly so they ran away but the father followed them. Finally, he did leave them alone and then the mother had to take care of her 7 children by working in the fields. Field workers make 5,000 TSH ( about $2.50 ) a day. Rose attended school until secondary school, when her mother couldn’t pay for school uniforms, books etc. so she couldn’t continue to go to school. At 17 Rose went looking for a job as housekeeper. She was working and sending money back to the family. Then she met a man who promised marriage but when she became pregnant and told him, he disappeared and the family she was working for would not let her continue to work for them. One year later she became pregnant again. This time with her neighbor and he also promised marriage. But when she told him about the pregnancy, he insulted her and verbally abused her. Finally Rose knew she needed help and went to Social Welfare and they referred her to Neema Village. Now she is staying with other MAP moms in the MAP apartments at Neema Village. Rose is 22 and has 2 children, a 2-year-old boy and 6-month-old girl named Highness.”
Hopefully this little families’ life is about to change! Life can become so complicated for these young women. Being in the world’s extremely poor income bracket does not offer much in choices for them. But Hope is not dead. Rose will begin classes and spiritual counseling and learn that God is still Good and has good plans for her. Neema Village has set over 140 women up in small businesses, hopefully Rose will finish the course and be one of them. Be praying.

Orphans are easier to ignore before you know their names. They are easier to ignore before you see their faces. It is easier to pretend they’re not real before you hold them in your arms. But once you do, everything changes.
