Rafia

Rafia is 35 years old and a widow. Her husband died from the sickness. She was kicked out from her husband’s family. We met her in a small mud hut room, all alone with her three children. One child stays with her, and her two other children stay at a different village in another region with their grandmother. Rafia wanted them to stay together, but that was not possible because of her financial struggles. Neema has helped support her by starting a vegetable stand business and paying rent. Her children are now all back with her. You can support these MAP (Mothers Against Poverty) moms by donating to the MAP program at Neema Village.

Orphans are easier to ignore before you know their names. They are easier to ignore before you see their faces. It is easier to pretend they’re not real before you hold them in your arms. But once you do, everything changes.
