Maria Joseph

Maria Joseph is 24 years old and has one baby named Jacob who is one year old.  Maria’s parents died when she was young, her grandma sent her to primary school, but was very poor, sometimes she found labour work to pay for school and sometimes was able to sell small things so she could buy school uniforms and exercise books.  Maria started to work during childhood to help so she could have her books.  After primary school she went to live on the streets.  She stayed with friends when she could.  Soon she was pregnant.  She is struggling now to find food for herself and her baby.  She has no place to live and is trying to clean houses for food.  She is desperate and worried about what kind of future she can have for her baby.  Maria is ready to learn about a different kind of life.

Orphans are easier to ignore before you know their names. They are easier to ignore before you see their faces. It is easier to pretend they’re not real before you hold them in your arms. But once you do, everything changes.
