Lydia

Lydia – 28 years old Lydia’s husband left her and her 2 children. After he left, life became very difficult and she was not able to pay her rent. Her landlord came and took all of her things – leaving her with nothing. She decided to go to her father’s village but because of kids, her father kicked her out. She made her way back to Arusha. She and her children were living and sleeping in the streets. At one point, she even considered suicide. She came upon a church and decided to sleep there. On a Sunday morning the pastor came and found her. She was crying and crying. This happened to be Angel’s church. They took up a collection for her and received 60,000 tsh. That would not last long with 2 small children and definitely not enough to find a place to live. Angel was worried about her and connected her to MAP program. Anna went to church to meet her and took her to MAP house. She stayed there for awhile but now she is renting a house. She is selling clothes in market – sleepers, shoes, and curtains.

Orphans are easier to ignore before you know their names. They are easier to ignore before you see their faces. It is easier to pretend they’re not real before you hold them in your arms. But once you do, everything changes.
