Agnes (Mama Daniella)

She came home one day and found everything in her home gone, including her husband.

Agnes is 29 years old and a devoted mother of three beautiful girls,(Gracious – 8, Abigael – 4, and Daniella – 1½). Her journey has been filled with hardship, yet her strength continues to shine through every challenge.

Agnes grew up in a vulnerable home. She has two siblings and was raised by her mother alone after her father abandoned the family. Life was never easy. Her mother struggled to provide, and today she is very sick and unable to help Agnes in any way. One of Agnes’ siblings went missing years ago, and to this day, no one knows whether he is alive. Her only remaining sibling survives by selling charcoal, barely earning enough to meet his own basic needs, he wishes he could help his sister but he can not.

Agnes’ education ended after Standard Seven when she did not pass her exams. Without the opportunity to continue school, she began working at just 14 years old as a house girl. By 18, she met a man who later became the father of her children. After becoming pregnant with their first child, they began living together as husband and wife.

Her partner worked as a motorbike driver but rarely supported the family unless forced. Determined that her children would not go hungry, Agnes began selling roasted corn by the roadside. She worked long hours to provide food and pay rent. Instead of her husband appreciating her, she often faced violence from him. If she returned home late from work, her husband would accuse her of cheating and physically abuse her.

In 2024, her life changed once again. After returning from a relative’s funeral, Agnes found her home completely empty. The father of her children had taken everything and disappeared. She was left alone with two young children and was two months pregnant with their third child.

She searched everywhere for answers. Some neighbors said he had gone to Kenya. His brother claimed he did not know where he was. Until today, his whereabouts remain unknown.

With nothing left in her home, Agnes began again from zero. Kind neighbors loaned her a mattress and a few household items. She survived by washing clothes for others, managing to pay rent and feed her children. But then her health began to fail. As she grew weaker, she could no longer work consistently. Eventually, she was unable to pay rent and was kicked out by the landlord. The borrowed mattress and household items were taken back, leaving her and her children without even the most basic necessities.

Desperate, she asked a friend for shelter. This friend generously allowed Agnes and her three children to stay in one small room. While staying with a friend, Agnes continued to struggle with illness and could not work. When the friend later needed to relocate to another city, she asked Agnes to find another place to go because she was going to sell her belongings.

Fortunately, during this heartbreaking moment of not knowing where to go, a lady visited them and told her about Neema Village.

Agnes came to Neema Village seeking help and hope. After meeting her and listening to her story, we welcomed her into our MAP Program (Mothers Against Poverty).

Today, Agnes is attending sewing classes and gaining skills that will allow her to start a small business in the future. She is also participating in therapy sessions to begin healing from years of trauma and attending Bible study for spiritual encouragement. Her health is still not fully stable, but Neema Village is covering her hospital bills and ensuring she receives medical care.

We were able to purchase essential household items so she and her children could live comfortably. Her two older children are now attending school, and for the first time in a long while, there is stability in their lives.

Agnes has a very simple dream,  to regain her strength, build a small business, and provide a safe, peaceful home for her children.

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
