Adelina

Adelina is 23 years old; she has one child named Anestisi, 5 yrs old, who was born severely handicapped.  She was kicked out from her family because of the baby, and then the father ran away to Uganda and abandoned her because of the baby. She was staying in Mwanza when her baby got sick and she brought the baby to KCMC hospital in Moshi.  The doctor reported that she had had no money, so some kind people from her village had contributed money to help her reach KCMC for treatment of her baby.   After finishing the treatment for three months in the hospital the doctor directed her to Arusha to Sibusiso for more treatment and therapy for her baby.  She met a lady there who hired her to work in her home as a house girl for 8,000 TSH per month (about $4. USD per month). She had no money and no family so she agreed to work for this lady but the lady did not pay her anything for one year.  Finally, she heard about Neema Village and she came for help.  She is now in one of our new MAP houses and her baby will be attending our daycare for special needs babies.  Adelina will join our MAP program where she will gain support and encouragement from our other moms, she will begin attending the sewing classes and hopefully she will be able to start a business soon.

Orphans are easier to ignore before you know their names. They are easier to ignore before you see their faces. It is easier to pretend they’re not real before you hold them in your arms. But once you do, everything changes.
