Mama Lecumo

MAMA LEKUMO’S STORY {NAAROPI}

Mama Lekumo is a Maasai lady who is about 40-45years old, has 9 kids. Her husband has two wives, and she is the first. One day we went to a Maasai village with a group of volunteers for a medical mission trip and food drop, she brought her youngest son Lekumo who is four years old  for treatment, he was severely sick and malnourished, he was in a very bad shape, and our doctor said if we leave him in the village for next few days without further medical attention he will die. Mama Lekumo was unable to get enough food when she was pregnant, so she was unable to take her medication for  “the sickness” and Lekumo was born both malnourished and with “the sickness”. He is 4 years old but looks like 2year old boy because of lack of food and poor nutrition.

We brought her and Lekumo back with us and Lekumo  was admitted to the hospital for further medical care until he recovered. Neema decided to keep Lekumo and his mother for almost two months so he can recover fully and get good and nutritious food.

Mama Lekumo was so worried about her other children because no one was there to care for them, so she asked to go back to her village to care for her other children. She has a husband who does not provide for the family because he is in favour of the second wife and not Mama Lekumo and her children, so Mama Lekumo is supporting her children on her own.

Neema village decided to put her in a Map Program and gave her a business so she will be able to support her family. She is going to sell corn and rice. Lekumo will stay at Neema and cared for until he is healthy.

When you leave this earth you can take nothing you have received, only what you have given.
